Day 17 of 31 Days: Learning from her big brother

Stop, Drop and Parent:
Day 17 of the 31 Days Challenge at the Nester

Learning from her big brother

Last night I got home later than usual, so I trying to spend quality time with each child was just not going to happen.  As soon as I walked in the door, I was surrounded by kiddos who needed ALL the attention IMMEDIATELY! Some days it is a challenge to even take off my coat and put down my bag.

Connor was very interested in using a toy that we received from our Ready for Kindergarten sessions at the elementary school. It is a set of 5 colored cups and 50 mini bears to sort by color like this one. Connor has long mastered his colors, but he still likes to play with them, especially since the bears are so small they don’t come out often. Last night I decided that perhaps we could show Amelia the toy with closer supervision since she still likes to eat them.that face

I tried giving her just two colors of cups and bears to practice just putting the bears in the cups.  She did fine with one color, but her brother kept switching the second color on her so trying to then get her to choose between two different colors was near impossible.  Pretty quickly she just started chucking the bears across the room, which her brother delighted in chasing.  Needless to say, bedtime jumped up a half hour early last night!

  1. You’ve got to love when they wear themselves out and want to go to bed earlier. Sounds like they had fun with their new toys. Siblings never really give the other one a chance to learn things when they first come in the house. Glad you got to spend that time with them.

  2. It’s often interesting to give children something to play with and see which direction they take it in, I’m often amazed at my daughter’s creativity.
