Day 22 of 31 Days: Scholastic Reading Club

Stop, Drop and Parent:
Day 22 of the 31 Days Challenge at the Nester

Scholastic Reading Club

Do you remember these in school?  Is it just me?  I have such great memories of getting the Scholastic Reading Club flyers in school, pouring over them, ordering books and then getting the delivery in school.  The pile of books getting delivered – that was the best part! So you can only imagine my excitement when I found this in Connor’s cubby at preschool!

31 daysI am beyond excited!  Although, I already went ahead and picked out all the books… Maybe I should have waited for him?  I ended up ordering 19 books in all – but one is a set of 12… It ended up averaging $2.25 a book! You really can’t ask for a better deal than that!  I am hoping that many can be wrapped as Christmas presents, but I also chose one Thanksgiving book and a few Christmas books.  The Christmas books I will wrap up and we will unwrap one each night in December before Christmas. I have been growing our Christmas book collection the last few years.

The set of 12 is a collection of phonics Little Critter books.  We love Little Critter – who doesn’t?  And it is so exciting to be picking out books designed for my beginning reader.  Connor has always loved books and he has been a super attentive listener so we have been able to dive into more complicated picture books.  Amelia has just discovered that books are for something more than eating!  She still needs to be in charge of the holding and the page turning, but at least we can start to do a little reading and talking about the pictures.

I have always loved reading and it is so important that I am able to pass this love along to my children.  We go to the library as often as we can – although – Miss Amelia is a bit destructive!  We always ready stories at night.  I recently created a reading corner in Connor’s newly designed room!

I can’t wait for our order of books to come in!
