The farm where we participate in a farm share has a wide array of flowers to cut as part of the share. This is, hands down, the best part of the share. It certainly began Connor’s love of flower picking and we hope Amelia’s as well.
It isn’t the easiest thing, cutting flowers at the farm. Since Daddy works every Saturday morning, it is just the just the kids and I when we pick up our share. That is okay when we are picking out or vegetables in the barn, but it is a whole ‘nother situation when we are in the PYO areas. Connor is all on board with PYO. Amelia on the other hand is a mixed bag. Some times she sticks close, other times she is running wild down the rows! Sometimes, there is shade, like between the rows of sugar snap peas. Other times, we are out in the sun and I am anxious to get her back in the shade.
But picking flowers is the best. Connor is much more thoughtful about colors and the length of the stems. Amelia still grabs fistfuls of blossoms and won’t let me put them in our bucket until they are nice and smushy.
I have my favorites – the dark purple blossoms with the delicate stems and I know just what vase is perfect for each flower. Amelia prefers bright, large flowers. Connor gravitates to the purple and blue blossoms.
